Kent U13 Cobras help Canada win CCM Nations Cup

The Kent U13 A Cobras led Canada to victory at the CCM Nations Cup minor hockey tournament in Rochester, Mich., on Nov. 27.

The Cobras beat the Romeoville (Illinois) Huskies 6-0 in the championship matchup of division winners.

The Canada and U.S. divisions had nine teams apiece. Each played four round-robin games to determine seedings for playoff games.

The Cobras won their division with a 3-0-1 record. They earned seven points by beating Indiana’s Midwest Blaze 5-2, Pennsylvania’s Westmoreland Eagles 7-1 and Michigan’s Kalamazoo K-Wings 6-3 before tying the Huskies 2-2.

In the playoff games, the ninth-place teams faced off for one point, the eighth-place teams for two points and so on, meaning the first-place teams met for nine points.

The Cobras’ nine-point victory helped to give Canada a 24-21 edge in the overall playoff standings. Canada also had a 37-35 advantage in the round-robin.
