Maroons tie playoff series with LaSalle at two games apiece

The Chatham Maroons evened their best-of-seven playoff series, defeating the LaSalle Vipers 2-1 in a thrilling contest in front of 1,126 fans at Chatham Memorial Arena on Thursday.

The first three games of the GOJHL Western Conference first-round playoff series all went into overtime. It appeared Thursday’s game was heading into overtime, before Cale Marontate scored with 6:39 left in the game to break up a 1-1 tie.

Both teams traded goals in the first period, with Brody Gillis scoring for Chatham off of a nice pass from Blain Bacik.

Both goalies were sharp, with LaSalle’s Tre Altiman making 38 saves and Maroons netminder Tommy O’Donnell making 22 saves.

Game 5 will take place in LaSalle on Saturday night, with Game 6 taking place in Chatham on Sunday. Both games are at 7 p.m.
