Altiman named to Team Ontario hockey team for a third time
Walpole Island First Nation member Ali Altiman has been named once again to under-18 Team Ontario, which will play in the 2024 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships being held in Grande Prairie Alberta May 5-11 .
Altiman also played in the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships last year in Winnipeg and was chosen as the tournament MVP. She was Team Ontario’s leading scorer in 2023, notching six goals, eight assists for 14 points in six games, as Ontario won the tournament championship gold in a 2-1 win against Manitoba. Altiman was also on the 2022 Team Ontario team.
The 17 year-old Altiman, who is turning 18 in a couple of weeks, played this past season in the Ontario Women’s Hockey League with the London Devilettes. Altiman was the Devilettes’ top goal scorer with 14 goals in 41 games. She was third on the team in points with 17.
Altiman also played for the Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks, with the team advancing to OFSAA.
Altiman’s older siblings also play hockey. Her older brother Tre is a standout goaltender with the LaSalle Vipers in the GOJHL. Her older sister, Ella Altiman, plays NCAA Division III hockey with Curry College in Milton Mass., where she is a sophomore defenceman.
