Bothwell Robin Hood wins national archery title
The Bothwell Robin Hood archers, from the Bothwell Archery Club, won the men’s division in the National Pop N Jay Archery tournament held in Delhi on April 13
Bothwell Robin Hood earned 17 points, five points higher than second-place Delhi Archery Club.
The object of popinjay is to knock artificial birds off their perches. The sport is popular in Belgium,
and in Canada among descendants of 20th-century Belgian emigrants. In southwestern Ontario the sport is popular in Bothwell, Wallaceburg, Alymer, Waterford, Chatham and Delhi.
They have been shooting at the teflon birds since 1951 at the Canadian Belgian Dutch Club in Wallaceburg.
