Barnstormers finding their stride
The Chatham-Kent Barnstormers are finding their groove, winning two games on the weekend at home, and have now won three of their past four games.
This past weekend the Barnstormers had a pair of home wins at Fergie Jenkins Field. On Sunday, the Barnstormers defeated the Kitchener Panthers 13-3. Cam O’Reilly picked up the win for Chatham-Kent, pitching six strong innings. Catalin Morin finished up with three strong innings on the mound to finish off the victory. Torrin Vaselenak hit a home run for the Barnstormers, with Spencer Marcus smashing two doubles.
On Saturday, Chatham-Kent tripled up the Barrie Baycats 12-4. Seth Strong and Braxton Haggith both had homeruns for the Barnstormers. Jalen Butcher hit two doubles. Brock Whitson picked up the win on the mound.
On Friday the Barnstormers lost to Barrie 11-5.
The Barnstormers record on the season is now 5-8.
The Barnstormers play in London on Tuesday. Their next home game is this Friday (June 21) against the Kitchener Panthers, followed by another home game on Saturday against the Brantford Red Sox.
Panda Strong
Seth “Panda” Strong continued his torrid pace at the plate for the Chatham Kent Barnstormers to take home the Intercounty Baseball League’s HRD Bat Company Batter of the Week (June 3-9) honours.
The Ohio native batted .500 on the week (5 for 10) with two home runs and seven RBIs as his Barnstormers snaped their seven-game losing skid Sunday in Hamilton.
Strong is a triple crown threat as he currently leads the IBL with seven home runs, leads the league lead in RBIs with 16 and is batting ..404 on the season, which is the second highest average in the IBL.
