Dresden Bulls win OBA title

Timely hitting and strong pitching helped the Dresden Bulls win the Ontario Baseball Association C championship in Port Hope on the weekend.

Dresden beat Essex 8-4 in the final game.

Overall, the Bulls went 5-0, beating Creemore, Mitchell, Essex, Tillsonburg and Essex again in the finals.

Pitching was key for Dresden, with Justin Cook , Brett Sproule, Matt Cook (one hitter against Essex), Alex Patterson each throwing a complete game.

Gabe Vanrycheghem started the final with Brett Sproule coming back get four outs and Justin Cook coming back to get the last two outs.

Alex Patterson not only got the win against Tillsonburg in the semifinal but walked it off in the bottom of the seventh when his single drove in two. Overall, Patterson drove in 10 runs over the weekend.

Robert Janovicek, Scott Mortimer, Justin Cook, Matt Cook, Ryan McFadden and Alex Patterson (1-6 hitters) combined to hit for an average of .420 while driving in 29 runs in five games.
