Hunter honoured by OCAA
Chatham’s Marandee Hunter was named an Ontario College Athletic Association star of the week for her efforts playing for the Fanshawe Falcons women’s softball team.
The Fanshawe Falcons are returning to the OCAA Women’s Softball Championship, thanks in large part to the play of Hunter. The fifth-year shortstop went 6-for-8 in a doubleheader sweep of the Lambton Lions on Oct. 9, securing fifth place in the final regular season standings.
Hunter scored four runs against the Lions, drove in five RBI and connected for a triple and two doubles. Hunter ends the season with a slash line of .380/.430/.595.
Fanshawe lost 12-4 to the Conestoga Condors on Thursday in a sudden death game at provincials held in Oshawa.
Hunter is in the accounting program at Fanshawe.
A multi-sport athlete, Hunter began her college athletic career as netminder for the St. Thomas University women’s hockey team, prior to transferring to Fanshawe.
