Aitken is an all-around athlete
We love all-around athletes here at Chatham-Kent Sports Network.
We know athletes who excel at two sports, a few elite three-sport athletes, and there has to be a few like Wallaceburg’s Dracen Campbell who take part in four sports (hockey, lacrosse, golf and basketball).
However, to our knowledge, there is nobody that can top Grande Pointe’s Xandre Aitken.
The Grade 12 École Secondaire Pain Court takes part in five sports. Five sports is what we are aware of, for all we know he could secretly be training for cricket and curling in his downtime.
He plays junior hockey with the Dresden Kings, three sports at Pain Court (basketball, swimming and soccer) and during the summer plays lacrosse with the Wallaceburg Red Devils.
Let’s break down Aitken’s athletics involvement.
Hockey
A rookie forward with the Dresden Kings, Aitken leads the Kings in points (20) and goals (11) through 26 games. He was an affiliate player last year with the Kings as a 16-year-old. Aitken was selected to the the PJHL all-star game scheduled for December 28 in Dresden.
Aitken has played one game with the GOJHL Chatham Maroons this season as a call-up.
High school sports
Aitken is currently playing two sports with the Patroites. Playing basketball, he scored 25 points a couple weeks ago in a win versus Blenheim. He also is on the swim team. Aitken qualified for the OFSAA provincial championships in two events (one individual and one relay) last year. In the spring he will play soccer.
In elementary school, Aitken was a strong cross-country runner for St. Catherine
In the spring and summer, Aitken plays the rough and tumble sport of box lacrosse. Aitken played in 18 games with the Red Devils, scoring two goals and adding three assists in a defensive role.
To keep his hockey skills sharp, Aitken played last summer in the pro-am Athletes Fuel Cup league, where his Team Goure squad won the 2023 Athletes Fuel Cup
Being a junior hockey player is tough. There are usually two games a week, plus at least one practice and other workouts. It’s a big time commitment. Add in a few high school sports practices, games and swim meets, and it’s likely Aitken has to be on top of where he is expected to be on a daily basis.
