Shona Branton shines in early swim meet
Port Lambton’s Shona Branton is already in peak form.
The reigning Western University female athlete of the year, earned four first-place finishes in her first university swim meet of the season.
Branton swept the breaststroke events (50m, 100m & 200m) and also contributing to the first-place finish in the women’s 200m Medley Relay. the OUA Stratten Divisional Championships at the University of Toronto held the weekend of November 23-24.
Mustangs head coach Paul Midgley said Branton had another standout performance at the event, sweeping the breaststroke events.
“I was pleasantly surprised with Shona’s race results for so early in the season,” said Midgley.
A fourth-year swimmer for Western, Branton earned the U Sports swimmer of the meet in March of this year after she brought home four medals from the three-day event including a pair of gold medals in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke. Not only did she win the events, but she also set U SPORTS records in each of them.
Branton would also get a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke and finished out the event with a bronze medal as part of the 4 x 100m medley relay team.
