Dane Fox leads Dresden in scoring

Dane Fox

Dane Fox’s hockey career has come full-circle, …sort of.

Growing up in Thamesville, Fox began his hockey journey playing in the Dresden minor hockey system before moving up to the Chatham-Kent Cyclones AAA program, the Ontaio Hockey League and then onto professional hockey. This year Fox is playing for Dresden Ice Lions, in the Germany tier two hockey league.

In 36 games, Fox leads Dresden in points with 38 points (11 goals, 27 assists).

Dresden Ontario has a population of about 3,000 and is a small town based on agriculture in southwestern Ontario. Dresden Germany is the capital city of the German state of Saxony and is the twelve most populous city of Germany, with an urban area population of 790,000. It’s located in eastern Germany, just north of the Czechia border.

The Dresden Sports Hall of Fame (Ontario) named Fox their athlete of the year in 2013.

This is Fox’s eighth year playing professional hockey in Europe and his first playing in Dresden (Germany). Now 31 years-old, he previously played in Germany’s top league with Nurnberg, and also played a year in Denmark.

Fox led the OHL in goals with 64 in 2013-14, while playing for the Erie Otters on a line with Connor McDavid and Connor Brown. They both now play with the Edmonton Oilers.
