Sebastian Belliveau

The region’s bowling community is in mourning after the death of a promising young bowler.

Tilbury’s Sebastian Belliveau died on Jan. 20 in a car accident. He was 18 years-old. He was part of the Canadian Tenpin Federation, the Youth Tenpin Program, and the Windsor Essex Chatham Kent Bowling Association to name a few.

In February of 2024, Belliveau became only the second youth bowler in Chatham to bowl a perfect game.

The last 300 game prior from a youth bowler was 30 years ago. He also set a new Bowlerama Chatham youth house series record of 749.

In an online tribute, southern Ontario’s Youth Bowling Tour (YBT) posted this; “Seb was a bright light in our community, known for his infectious smile, sportsmanship, and dedication to the sport.

Seb’s passion for bowling was evident in everything he did. He was a talented athlete who consistently pushed himself to improve, always willing to help his teammates and encourage others. His positive attitude and ability to bring joy to everyone around him will be deeply missed.”

A GoFundMe was started a couple days ago with a goal of raising $5,000 for the family. As of Saturday morning it has raised just over $22,000.

To help assist the Belliveau family, Chatham Bowlerama is hosting a ten-pin fundraiser on Feb. 8 from 1-5 p.m. It includes two games and a shoe rental for $25 with all money going to the Belliveau family. Any questions call Bowlerama at 519-354-4460.

Visitation is Friday January 31 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Reaume Funeral Home, 6 Canal St. West Tilbury. Memorial Mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church, 32 Canal St. West Tilbury, Saturday, February 1 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow at The SCOT, formerly the KofC, 20 Dupuis Ave, Tilbury.
