Smith is a two-sport standout at Adrian College
It didn’t take too long for Moraviantown’s Savana Smith to find her stride in women’s college hockey. Four games in and she is her team’s leading goal scorer.
Smith, is a freshman forward for the Adrian College (Michigan) women’s hockey team that plays in the American Collegiate Hockey Association at the division 2 level. Smith has only played in four of the team’s 20 games, but leads the team in goals with 12. She is third on the team in points, with 15.
She also play’s on Adrian’s women’s golf team.
While the Adrian College hockey team has played in 20 games and has a 9-9-2 record, Smith joined the team in the new year, as she had to wait until her eighteenth birthday in December to join the team due to USA Hockey rules.
On Saturday, Smith scored eight goals in a 35-0 win over Hope College. On Friday, Smith had a hat-trick in a 33-0 victory against Hope College.
A graduate of Ridgetown District high school, Smith played last year on the Chatham-Kent Crush U18 AA team. The Crush played an exhibition game earlier this year against the Adrian College ACHA division 2 team and won 6-0. Smith was not playing for Adrian College at the time, as she was focused on golf in the fall. The Adrian College golf team will start their spring season in March.
Adrian’s division two women’s hockey team plays a home and away series this weekend versus Lawrence Tech.
