Chatham curler on provincial championship team
Chatham’s Oliver Campbell teamed up with Niagara Falls curler Katie Ford to win the Ontario mixed doubles curling championship on Sunday in Kingston.
Campbell/Ford, who curl out of the Kitchener/Waterloo Granite Club, beat Team Holyoke/Lawes 7-4 in the final to win the provincial championship.
It wasn’t a great start for Campbell/Ford, as they lost two of their first three games. However, they won five straight games on their way to the provincial title.
With the provincial championship, Campbell/Ford will now advance to the Canadian mixed doubles curling championship scheduled for March 16-21 in Summerside P.E.I.
Campbell is a graduate of John McGregor Secondary School, where he skipped the Panthers to its first Kent and SWOSSAA curling titles in 2014. In the past, Campbell also competed with Wilfrid Laurier University’s men’s curling team, and won an Ontario junior men’s curling championship curling with Team Steep.
