Josling wins silver at nationals

William Josling of the Chatham Skating Club won a silver medal in the pre-novice men’s division at the Skate Canada Trophy in Edmonton on Feb. 7.

Going into the free skate, Josling was in fifth place. He had the top score in the free skate to move up to second place overall.

Quebec’s Matheo Harvey won the men’s gold medal, also breaking a Canadian record. He finished the competition with a total of 115.42 points. Josling’s total was 109.03 points.

He represented Team Ontario at the new national competition for novice and pre-novice skaters. He qualified by winning gold at the Skate Ontario sectional championship in December.

Josling, 15, is coached by Laura Smith of the Chatham Skating Club and Alison Purkiss of the Brant Skating Club.
