Matteis helps power Fanshawe to OCAA championship

A strong defensive effort by Chatham’s Kaidance Matteis helped the Fanshawe Falcons women’s volleyball team secure a spot in the OCAA championship.
The Fanshawe Falcons women’s volleyball team had a dominant straight-sets 3-0 victory over the visiting Conestoga Condors in last Saturday’s (Feb, 15) OCAA quarter-final matchup.
A first-year player with Fanshawe, Matteis was a force at the net, leading Fanshawe with four blocks and adding eight points. Her defensive presence was evident throughout, shutting down the Condors’ attack.
A former Ursuline Lancer, Matteis also led the Falcons in their playoff opener on Feb. 8, a win over Centennial. She tied for the team lead in blocks with three.
The Falcons will now play in the OCAA Championship final four, set for February 21-22 at Humber College. The Falcons now turn their attention to a semi-final matchup versus the No.11 nationally ranked St. Clair Saints (18-2, 2nd West), at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 21 in Etobicoke.
