Six local wrestlers advance to OFSAA
A total of five Ursuline Lancer wrestlers and one Tibury wrestler qualified for the OFSAA provincial championships after finishing in the top two at the SWOSSAA wrestling meet held last week at Lambton College.
A total of 12 wrestlers from Ursuline competed at SWOSSAA.
Paige Srokosz, Hunter Hottot and Ayden Brown all won gold. Srokosz was able to pin her opponent just seconds into her gold medal match.
In addition, Tilbury’s Shelby Kemp was also a gold-medal winner.
Aurora Williams and Emmanuella Caleb both finished with silver medals and will advance to OFSAA.
Worth noting, is the perservarance of Lancer wrestler Dean Rocheleau. Rocheleau broke two bones in his leg in November. He battled back to recovery and stepped onto the mat for the first time earlier this month at the LKSSAA championships, where he finished fourth in a tough division. He had a last-second defeat at SWOSSAA and finished sixth overall.
The OFSAA wrestling provincial championships will be held in Kitchener on March 3-5.
