Sluys earns OCAA honour

After leading her team to a historic upset, Thamesville’s Abby Sluys was named an Ontario College Athletic Association athlete of the week.
Now in her fifth year of eligiblility, Sluys is an outside hitter for the Conestoga Condors women’s volleyball team.
In a historic four-set playoff upset over the 18-0 undefeated Seneca Sting on Feb. 8, Sluys came to play leading with poise and experience. She led Conestoga offensively with 19 kills on a .370 attacking average and three service aces for 22 points in the match averaging 5.5 points per set.
The Condors became the first-ever No. 8 seed to defeat a No. 1 in the crossovers in OCAA women’s volleyball.
In an OCAA quarterfinal game held on the weekend, Conestoga’s season eneded by being swept by the Fanshawe Falcons.
A graduate of Chatham Christian, Sluys is in Conestoga’s Recreation and Sport Administration program. She previously competed for four years at Redeemer College, where she was named the school’s female athlete of the year in 2022.
