Maroons power play propels them to playoff series win

The Chatham Maroons came back to defeat the Elmira Sugar Kings 4-3 on Thursday night at Chatham Memorial Arena, to advance to the next round of the GOJHL playoffs.

With the Game 5 win, the Maroons won the Western Conference semifinal four games to one.

Elmira jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the first period. Chatham then scored three times in four power play opportunities to get back into the game.

Carter Chadwick had a pair of power play goals. Parker Nyitray scored the game-winner on the power play with just under eight minutes remaining in the game.

Noah Mathieson scored  the other Maroons goal.

In the five games against Elmira in the first round, the Maroons scored 13 power play goals and was successful 48 percent of the time.

The Maroons will now play Stratford in the GOJHL Western Conference semifinals. Dates of the next round have not yet been announced.
