Tilbury’s Emmett Mather picked by Flint in OHL draft
Tilbury’s Emmett Mather was drafted by the Flint Firebirds in the 12th round in this past weekend’s OHL draft.
Mather played this past season with the Windsor Jr. Spitfires U16 team. Previously he played for the Chatham-Kent Cyclones AAA program.
Mather’s father Shawn played for Michigan State and a couple of years with the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires before embarking on a nine-year professional hockey career in North America and Europe.
The Chatham Maroons had three affiliate players picked in the OHL draft. Woodslee’s Andrew Baker was selected in the ninth round by the Guelph Storm, Belle River’s Eamon Edgar was selected in the second round by the Barrie Colts, and Amherstburg’s Jordan Maine was picked in the 15th round by the Windsor Spitfires.
Eamon Edgar’s dad Derek Edgar played Junior C hockey for the Mooretown Flags, where he was a teammate of Mark McLaughlin. McLaughlin’s son Johnny McLaughlin was picked in the first round by the Windsor Spitfires.
