Barnstormers to honour Doug Melvin

Chatham’s Doug Melvin

The Chatham-Kent Barnstormers are planning to honour Chatham’s Doug Melvin at their home game versus the London Majors on Tuesday.

Melvin, a Chatham-Kent Secondary School grad, was a former general manager of the Texas Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers.

A portrait of Melvin will be unveiled outside of Fergie Jenkins Field. The ceremony starts at 6:30 p.m. and the game is at 7:35 p.m.

Melvin’s portrait will be the third one outside the baseball field, joining Chatham’s Fergie Jenkins and Bill Atkinson who both played in baseball’s major leagues.

Melvin is in both the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame and the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
