Day wins IBL weekly honour

Chatham-Kent Barnstormers pitcher Garret Day was named a co-winner of the Intercounty Baseball League pitcher of week recently.

Day, a Chatham resident, who has locked down the Barnstormers’ closer role over the past two seasons, was lights out in three relief appearances, notching three saves in three innings. He allowed just one run, three hits, walked one, and hit a batter—closing out three of Chatham-Kent’s four wins during the week.

Appearing in four games this season, Day has one win and a 2.25 ERA. Last year in his rookie year, Day made 18 appearances, and had a 1.66 ERA. He was recipient of 2018 Fergie Jenkins award, as most outstanding player in the Chatham Minor Baseball Association travel system

The Barnstormers (6-5) are on a four-game win streak. The host the Hamilton Cardinals this Saturday (June 14), with game time set for 7:05 p.m. On Sunday, the Barnstormers will travel to Toronto for an afternoon game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
