Two Maroons drafted into NAHL

Chatham Maroons rookie forwards Sean Truby and Parker Nyitray were both selected in the North American Hockey League draft held last week. Both were third-round picks.

Truby, a speedy forward from Royal Oak MI, was drafted by Wisconsin’s Janesville Jets with the 82nd overall selection. Nyitray, of Maumee, OH, went 96th overall to Alaska’s Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

A mid-season pickup by the Maroons, Truby put up seven points in 17 regular season games. In the playoffs Truby found his stride, putting up 16 points in 25 games, including 10 goals.

Nyitray had 30 points in 49 regular season games. A defensive specialist who was called on to take key faceoffs for the Maroons, Nyitray had five points in 10 playoff games before missing time due to what the team called a lower-body injury.

Former Maroons Gunnar Hillman and goalie Tommy O’Donnell played in the NAHL last season. O’Donnell played nine games in the NAHL with the Johnstown Tomahawks, while Hillman played a game with the North Iowa Bulls.
