Will Chatham Maroons be active at trade deadline, or sit back?

With the trade deadline coming up on January 9, who knows what will happen to the Chatham Maroons roster?

The Maroons have a talented roster, and they lead the GOHL’s Western Division with 53 points. Will Maroons first-year head coach/general manager Brennan Feasey think about reshuffling the roster?

Last year the Chatham Maroons—then under the direction of Richard Santos, made a flurry of changes just prior to the trading deadline.

Even though the Maroons had a solid team, the changes improved the Maroons. Not only did they go 16-3 to finish out the regular season, but the Maroons won four playoff series on their way to their first Sutherland Cup championship since 1999.

Dylan Richter and Sean Truby, defenceman Logan Burnham and Carter Gillen all joined the Maroons at the deadline, along with January pickups Ewan McChesney and defenceman Carter Kucher.

The moves gave the Maroons more depth, added skill and they became more physical. It paid off in the end with a Junior B provincial title.

The Maroons have a talented roster. The forwards have a lot of skill, with eight players (Trevor Zanutto, Jaxon Priddle, Ewan McChesney, Alexander Lisi, Carter Chadwick, Parker Graham, Aiden Edwards and Max Skinner) having nine or more goals.

A good playoff team usually has experienced defencemen. A good junior coach once said a junior defenceman usually matures once they have 100 games of experience.

Defencemen Josh Harding (141), Bo Doxtator (200), Even Krell (140) all have a large number of games under their belts.

Aydan Doyle has played in 181 junior games.

The Maroons will improve once they get Doyle, captain Dylan Richter, Krell and goalie Samuel DiBlasi back from recent injuries.

The Maroons visit Listowel on Friday, and host London on Sunday after the trade deadline.
