UCC, WDSS Win First Games in Junior Football Season
The opening games of the KCSSAA Junior Boys Football season started with a bang Friday night with two games on the schedule. In the early game, the UCC Lancers overcame a first half deficit to win 24-14.
Trailing 14-8 at the half following a few defensive lapses, UCC showed that the pre-season hype surrounding their team was true as they powered back shutting out the JMSS Panthers in the second half of the game. The first touchdown of the game went to UCC following an interception, and then a beautiful pass only a few plays later. UCC’s other first half point came on a rouge following a missed field goal.
In the second half, the Lancers utilized a strong running game to get back into the game and pull out the victory.
Anthony Cunha led the Lancers with two touchdowns, both in the 4th quarter. Jazz Miguel-White also scored for UCC.
Gabe Gagner and D’Wan List-Mailloux scored touchdowns for John McGregor.

In the second game of the evening, the Wallaceburg District Secondary School Tartans played the CKSS Golden Hawks under the lights at the CKSS field. Despite the home field advantage for CKSS, Wallaceburg walked away with a 21-7 victory. The win came for the Tartans, despite the fact they were without offensive catalyst Jonah Pataki.
Troy Babcock, Tyler Mel, and Kevin Kellet scored for the WDSS Tartans while Tanner Emery had the lone Golden Hawks TD.
All CKSS home games this season will be played under the lights at the Chatham-Kent Athletic Complex.
