Blenheim Blades pass Dresden for final playoff spot
Every point matters now for both the Blenheim Blades and the Dresden Kings as they finish out their Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League schedules. With the Blenheim Blades 6-5 win over Alvinston and Dresden’s 6-3 loss to the Belle River Canadiens, Blenheim hurdled Dresden for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League. Blenheim now sits 1-point ahead of the Dresden Kings with little over a week remaining in the season.
Dresden has only two games remaining against Essex and Kingsville. To make the playoffs, they will need at least one win in those games, and have to hope that Blenheim does not win again. This wish, is not unrealistic as the Blenheim Blades face huge challenges in their remaining three games, playing first place Wallaceburg twice, and second place Belle River once.
These games are not meaningless for Wallaceburg and Belle River either. The favourites to meet in the Great Lakes final, only one point separates the two teams with an equal number of games remaining.
