Blenheim on the Ropes After the Wallaceburg Lakers Win in OT

Blenheim, ON – From one shot away from evening their first round best of seven series, to one game away from elimination. This is reality for the Blenheim Blades as they suffered a devastating overtime loss to the Wallaceburg Lakers 3-2. Wallaceburg now has a strangle hold lead on the series, which sits at 3-1, and needs only one win to eliminate the Blades.

Tyson Isaac continued a strong playoff peformance scoring an early goal for the Lakers, while Johnathan Derynck added the other Wallaceburg goal in regulation. Thomas Innes and Neven Wiebenga rallied the Blenheim Blades from down 2-0 to tie the game and send it to overtime.

9-minutes into the first overtime frame however, Wallaceburg Lakers Brendon Merritt scored from Norm Leger and Jordan Durston to end the game. Wallaceburg’s Matt Berglund made 36 saves for the win, while Taylor Speed made 34 saves in the loss. Wallaceburg now holds 3-1 lead in the best of seven series.

Game 5, a potentially series deciding game, takes place tonight, Monday, in Wallaceburg at 7:30pm.
