Chicago Bears Sign Chatham's Andy Fantuz

Chatham, ON – Andy Fantuz of Chatham has joined Wallaceburg’s Shaun Suisham as the second Chatham-Kent resident in the NFL. Fantuz has signed a contract to play for the Chicago Bears.

Fantuz, a former John McGregor Secondary School graduate, was the CFL’s most outstanding Canadian this past season as a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Fantuz announced the signing on his Twitter account Friday afternoon stating “Hey everyone.. I just signed a contract with the Bears today. I want to thank everyone for all of your support!”

Fantuz had also worked out with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings in December.

The deadline for Fantuz to sign a contract with an NFL team was February 15th, after which time he would have been contractually obligated to return to Saskatchewan.

Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
