Wallaceburg Lakers Lock Up 2010-2011 Regular Season Title
Wallaceburg, ON – With their 3-1 Saturday night over the Mooretown Flags, the Wallaceburg Lakers locked up top spot in the league, narrowly holding off the Belle River Canadiens, for their first ever regular season championship. Wallaceburg now enters the postseason as the top seed and will hold home ice advantage throughout the playoffs.
In Saturday’s win, Wallaceburg jumped out to an early 1-0 lead off a goal by Norm Leger. In the second, Nash Lozon and Shawn Lubbers added to their lead, before Mooretown scored the lone third period goal.
For the Lakers, their attention now turns to the surging Blenheim Blades. In recent weeks, Blenheim has been on a tear winning four of their last five games, including victories over the league’s top teams: Wallaceburg and Belle River.
For the Lakers, they’ll now focus on getting into playoff mode, a zone that the Blenheim Blades have been in for the last month as they caught and overtook Dresden for the final playoff spot.
The playoff series begins this Wednesday in Wallaceburg at 7:30, with game two going to Blenheim on Sunday at 7:15pm. Continue to watch the Chatham-Kent Sports Network for a full Great Lakes Junior C playoff preview.
