Canadiens Power Past Underdog Wheatley Sharks in Game 1

In their first Great Lakes final in half a decade, the Wheatley Sharks got off to a rough start losing 6-3 to the experienced Belle River Canadiens Friday night. In front of their home crowd, the Canadiens rolled dominating much of the play and peppering Wheatley goalie Marc Tremblay with 44 shots.

Nik Dobrich continued his playoff dominance and is the Canadiens leading playoff scorer after adding 4 points (2 goals and 2 assists) to his totals in game 1 of the Great Lakes Junior C Finals. Chris Dinatale also added 2 goals for Belle River while regular season scoring ace Scott Chauvin had 2 helpers. Spencer Jean and Travis Brown had the other goals for the Belle River Canadiens.

Wheatley was led, as they have been through much of the playoffs by Shawn Quigley who scored once. Andy Stevenson also scored for the Wheatley Sharks, while Kurtis Ouellette, the league’s top defenseman added the other Wheatley Sharks goal.

Game 2 now moves to Wheatley Area Arena on Wednesday night at 7:30pm. The Sharks, who have lost all but one game against the Belle River Canadiens this year, will need to regroup and are hoping to feed off a packed house home crowd Wednesday.

Th Wheatley Sharks have never won a Great Lakes Junior C title, while Belle River is the defending champion.
