Graduating Wallaceburg Lakers Will be Hard to Replace
Wallaceburg, ON – Junior hockey teams across Ontario lose top players each year to overage rules. It isn’t often however, that a team loses their captain, playoff leading scorer, number one defenseman, and starting goaltender in a single year.
Captain Nazh Lozon played 156 games for the Wallaceburg Lakers over 4 seasons, totalling 129 points. Lozon is the lone Wallaceburg born and raised product on this list, and will be a missed focal point in the Wallaceburg community as he’s played an important role in fundraising and building the team image as a member of the Wallaceburg Lakers.
Lewis and Pitfield both finished their second seasons with the Lakers. Pitfield, a Sarnia resident, scored a point per game as a defenseman in the league, totalling 51 points in 51 games, while Lewis, of Corunna, had 82 points in only 67 games as a member of the Wallaceburg Lakers.
Goaltender Matt Berglund, who also saw time playing Junior B in Sarnia during his career, and who is another Sarnia resident, has been a key contributor between the pipes for the Wallaceburg Lakers the last two seasons, playing in the vast majority of games. In fact, Wallaceburg backup Reid Rankin only played 8 games this season. Berglund graduates with a 2.79 goals against average and .908 save percentage.
An announcement regarding Wallaceburg’s next head coach will be delivered shortly, although it has been widely speculated that a current member of the organization will be the next Wallaceburg Lakers bench boss.
