John McGregor Wins OFSAA Voleyball Bronze
After entering the OFSAA volleyball tournament in Ottawa as the top ranked ‘AA’ school in Ontario, the John McGregor Secondary School Panthers Girls Volleyball team walked away with a bronze medal.
In the quarter finals, the JMSS Panthers were upset by St. Catherines Eden on their way to beating Ottawa De La Salle in two games for the bronze. JMSS took the bronze medal game without struggle winning 25-20 and 25-21.
St. Catherines Eden who eliminated John McGregor from gold medal contention, went on to win the OFSAA ‘AA’ Gold.
Chatham-Kent Secondary School, who was participating in the ‘AAA’ OFSAA tournament in Niagara, enetered as the 7th ranked school and proved many critics wrong with a successful 4th place finish. CKSS was knocked out of the semi-final by fellow SWOSSAA team Belle River, who the girl’s Golden Hawks team has met several times over past seasons.
In the bronze medal game, the CKSS Girls fell to Assumption in two games, 25-18 and 25-17.
The successes of JMSS and CKSS on the provincial volleyball scene continues to prove the strength of high school and club volleyball programs in Chatham-Kent. High School athletics now take a hiatus until after the March Break.
