Chatham-Kent Wildcats Major Atom Girls Win Gold

After another strong tournament showing, the Chatham-Kent Wildcats Major Atom Girls team is now looking toward the Provincial Finals later this month. This past weekend, the Chatham-Kent Wildcats team won gold at the Hoop Dome Tournament in Toronto.

The team went 4 and 0 winning the Gold Medal game over Sarnia Valhalla.  Chatham-Kent didn’t play teams that were ranked as highly as teams in the past 4 tournaments, but it was a great weekend to work on the kinks in the U12 team’s offense and to gain confidence heading into the Provincial Championships March 25 – 27 in Mississauga.

Game 1: Chatham – 44 Caledon – 12

Burke Bechard – 10, Loren Koluk – 8, Julia Rush – 6, Chelsea Hartford, Lauren Ball, Jana Kucera, McKenna Ladd and Kaylee Boulley all with 4, Allyson Huckle – 2 and Logan Kucera – 1.

Game 2: Chatham – 50  Guelph Phoenix – 32

Allyson Huckle – 9, Lauren Ball and Jana Kucera both with 6, Logan Kucera, Julia Rush, Loren Koluk, Burke Bechard, Brooke Mackinnon and Kaylee Boulley all with 4, Riley Torres and McKenna Ladd both with 2.

There were only 7 teams in the tournament so Chatham was given a bye to the semi-final for taking first place finish in pool play.

Semi-final – Game 3: Chatham – 40 Oakville Venom – 24

McKenna Ladd – 8, Allyson Huckle and Burke Bechard both with 6, Loren Koluk – 5, Logan Kucera and Brooke Mackinnon both with 4, Lauren Ball – 3, Riley Torres – 2, Julia Rush – 1.

Gold Medal Game: Chatham – 40 Sarnia Valhalla – 28

Lauren Ball – 10, Allyson Huckle – 6, Chelsea Hartford and Burke Bechard both with 4, Julia Rush and Brooke Mackinnon both with 3, Logan Kucera, Riley Torres both with 2, Loren Koluk and McKenna Ladd both with 1.

The team now heads to the Provincial Championship in Mississauga from March 25 – 27 with a record of 15 wins and 11 losses.  CK expects to be ranked in Division One (top 8 in the province).
