When Wallaceburg’s Chris Bergeron looks back on his first season as head coach of the Bowling Green State University Falcons, he may point to March 6 as the turning point for his men’s hockey team program.
On that day, the Falcons, who finished the regular season in last place in the 11-team Central Collegiate Hockey Association, won 2-1 overtime game to win a best-of-three opening round series against Northern Michigan. The win propelled the Falcons into a second round of play against the University of Michigan Wolverines on March 11-12. However, the Falcons weren’t as lucky the second time around, dropping 5-1 and 4-1 games to the Wolverines.
“The Falcons showed steady improvement and worked consistently hard this season,” Chris told the Bowling Green Sentinel-Tribune after the second Michigan game. “I like the progress we’ve made and the foundation of our culture. Our foundation is more solidified.”
The Falcons were 3-21-4 in the CCHA conference play and 10-27-4 overall.
