Busy Day of High School Football, Soccer, and Rugby Across Chatham-Kent
Thursday featured a packed schedule of high school athletics in every corner of Chatham-Kent. The evening featured six games of soccer and a single contest on the junior football, and girls rugby schedules involving seven different Chatham-Kent high school’s.
Starting off the night was a 40-25 romp by the Blenheim Bobcats over the CKSS Golden Hawks in Junior Football. In the first half, Blenheim quarterback Ben Bartlett moved the ball well and his Blenheim team capitalized on multiple fumbles and turnovers by the CKSS offence. In the second half, CKSS showed some life, but were unable to overcome their deficit.
Dalton Shuian led the Bobcats with three rushing touchdowns while Alex Gardiner had two. Bartlett connected with Blayne Oliver for the other Blenheim TD. Adam Labute had two TDs for CKSS while Jon Ashby added their other.
In senior girls soccer, Audree Rossignol scored twice for the Pain Court Patriotes as they shutout the John McGregor Panthers 4-0. Other ESPC goals came from Brooke Marchand and Kelsey Packham. Emily Pepper and Paige Coyne shared the shutout in net for Pain Court.
Wallaceburg blanked the Lambton-Kent Cardinals 1-0 with Christina DeBakker taking game star and scoring the lone goal for the Tartans.
In the final KCSSAA girls soccer game CKSS rocked Tilbury 6-0. Senior Kailey Houston scored twice for the Golden Hawks while Alicia Huckle, Ashley Paraskavopolous, Niki Whitson, and Chelsey Chana-Johnson scored singles for Chatham-Kent Secondary School.
James Shelton scored twice for the Lambton-Kent Cardinals in senior boys soccer as they defeated the Wallaceburg District Secondary School Tartans. Grade 9 Tartans player Garth Denys scored his second goal in as many games for WDSS as they fell 2-1 to LKCS.
Pain Court was led by Blake Blondeel, who scored his second goal of the season, and Kyle Parry as they defeated John McGregor 2-1. Josh Wright had the only goal for the JMSS Panthers.
Finally, in girls rugby, the Blenheim Bobcats bounced back from an opening loss to UCC with a 22-5 win over CKSS.
