Cunningham Helps Greenville Even Playoff Series
In the East Coast Hockey League Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, Dresden’s Wes Cunningham is playing a crucial role in his team’s playoff success.
Runner-Up for the ECHL’s best defenseman award, Cunningham and his Greenville Road Warriors tied their best of seven series against the Wheeling Nailers 1-1 after a 2-1 overtime win. Cunningham has been playing vital minutes for the Road Warriors on the powerplay and as a shut down defender.
In game one of the series, Greenville was defeated 4-3 by Wheeling. Cunningham collected an assist on the final goal of the game which was scored by Brendan Connolly. Game two needed an overtime goal by Jimmy Kilpatrick for the Greenville Road Warriors to squeak out a victory. Cunningham took a two minute tripping penalty late in the first period and also fired 5 shots on net for the Road Warriors.
Game 3 hits the ice Wednesday at 7:05pm at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.
The winner of this series will take on either Kalamazoo or Reading in the Eastern Conference Final of the 2011 Kelly Cup playoffs.
