Derek Whitson Helps Canada Down the USA at World Sledge Hockey Challenge
Only an hour down the highway from Chatham-Kent, the world’s best sledge hockey players are doing battle at the World Sledge Hockey Challenge in London.
Monday, Team Canada, which features Derek Whitson of Chatham, defeated the USA 3-1 in the opening game of the tournament for both teams. Greg Westlake scored two goals in the win, while Anthony Gale scored the other for Canada.
In a Tweet from @HC_Sledge with 10 minutes remaining in the third period, Hockey Canada Sledge said, “3-1 in the third with 10:34 left. Whitson looking solid.”
Whitson picked up an interference penalty in the contest.
Team Canada faces off against Norway tonight in London, and against Japan Wednesday. Both games are at the Western Fair Sports Complex.
