Despite taking a 2-1 lead early in the second period, Team Canada fell to Russia 6-4 in the bronze medal game at the World Under-18 Hockey Championships in Germany. In the second period of the game, Canada allowed 4 unanswered goals sinking their medal chances in the tournament.

Canada scored with a little over  a minute remaining to close the score to 5-4, however, Russia’s Nail Yakupov of the Sarnia Sting, put the game away scoring an empty net goal to win the game 6-4. The loss put Canada out of the medals to a 4th place finish.

Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith had several scoring chances in the game and tournament, but was held off the scoresheet as he saw almost no powerplay time, and was positioned in a checking line role with Team Canada.

This role was reflected in Head Coach Mike Williamson’s pre-tournament interview with CKSN in which he stated, “We like Seth’s compete level and his ability to play a stong role on all three zones.”

Griffith, who is the 158th ranked North American skater for the upcoming NHL draft will now return home to finish his semester at Wallaceburg District Secondary School and will be left to training and waiting as the NHL draft and another OHL season approach.
