Seth Griffith's NHL Dreams On The Fast Track with U-18 Selection
Seth Griffith’s selection to the U-18 Team Canada roster for the upcoming IIHF U-18 World Championships not only signifies a huge success at the junior hockey ranks, but also a significant step forward for Griffith in his quest to reach the NHL.
Originally pegged as a player who only had a chance to be selected in the late rounds of this summer’s NHL Draft, the selection to Team Canada’s U-18 team almost surely identifies Griffith as a player who will have his name called by an NHL team this June, likely, higher than he was originally projected. As well, Griffith recently dazzled scouts leading his London Knights in playoff scoring as they were ousted in the first round by the Owen Sound Attack.
The NHL Central Scouting final rankings will be released April 12, which is prior to the official start of Griffith and Team Canada’s IIHF Under 18 World Championships. Canada plays the United States (April 9), Sweden (April 11), and Germany (April 12) in pre-tournament games before officially opening the 2011 IIHF Under-18 World Championships April 15 against the Czech Republic.
Chatham-Kent fans, including those from Griffith’s hometown of Wallaceburg will be able to watch Chatham-Kent’s newest hockey hero skate for Team Canada on Tuesday, April 19 against Sweden on TSN. TSN will also televise the quarter finals, semi-finals, and both medal games.
After speaking to multiple OHL officials, they stated that Griffith has been under the microscope from several NHL clubs who will be targeting him at the upcoming NHL Draft in June. In particular, one Western Conference team has spent significant time examining Seth Griffith’s on and off ice attributes.
Continue to follow the Chatham-Kent Sports Network for more details regarding Seth Griffith’s performance at the IIHF Under-18 World Championships and as the NHL draft approaches. CKSN was also able to talk to Team Canada Head Coach Mike Williamson for a story that will come out early next week.
