Brady Campbell Talks About Sutherland Cup Win
Last week, Brady Campbell capped off an outstanding Junior B hockey season with the Elmira Sugar Kings by winning the Sutherland Cup, Ontario’s Junior B championship trophy. Campbell, a Blenheim resident scored 54 points, including 28 goals in 51 regular season games. In the 9 game Sutherland Cup, Campbell added 14 points.
For Campbell, after missing the playoffs last season with the Blenheim Blades, this run was a first, and something he won’t soon forget,
“I’ve never played in the playoffs at the junior level,” said Campbell, “It was an awesome experience, and to still be playing hockey into May is unbelievable. You couldn’t ask for anything more as far as what we did this season and how we were rewarded.”
When asked about his strong statistics this season, Campbell was quick to point to his Sugar Kings organization, and teammates for reasons for his success, “Playing in Elmira gave me the chance to get the ice time as a first year player. We have a great hard working team and playing with these guys makes it easier to get the results.”
The decision to move to Elmira for Campbell, although it now likely seems as though it was a no-brainer, was carefully calculated by the Blenheim teen, as he looked to advance his hockey career, and hopes to continue imrpoving next season when he returns to Elmira,
“I thought it would be a great experience for me,” said Campbell about moving to Elmira, “I had some friends moving on to post-secondary, so I thought I might as well move too. As far as playing for Elmira, I knew it would be a great place to play.”
“I will be returning to play in Elmira next season, and after that I’m not sure. Playing in the NCAA would be amazing and something I’d love to do.”
After such a successful season, Brady Campbell knows his team won’t be the same next season, but he hopes the strong bonds the Elmira Sugar Kings built as a team, and their winning ways will continue in the future,
“I can’t believe its over. For our team, we had a blast as we came together over the season and winning this just brought us even closer. I have never been on a team that was so fun to play for, I just wish we could stay together and play together next year.”
