Campbell and Sugar Kings Look to Clinch Sutherland Cup Tonight
One win is all Blenheim’s Brady Campbell and his Elmira Sugar Kings need to secure a Sutherland Cup title tonight against the Niagara Falls Canucks.
Thursday, Elmira beat the Canucks 4-3 in front of a crowd of more than 1,500. Success, is nothing new for the Elmira Sugar Kings, who have competed in the Sutherland Cup 5 times since 1997, winning it all in 2001 and 1997.
In game 4, Campbell had yet another multi-point effort adding two powerplay assists. Overall in the Sutherland Cup, in 8 games, Campbell has 13 points, 11 of which have come against the Niagara Falls Canucks.
Last season as a member of the Blenheim Blades, Campbell didn’t experience much winning, as his team only won 11 games, and missed the Great Lakes Junior C playoffs finishing last in the league.
Now, Campbell is one game away from the biggest prize in Ontario for Junior B hockey. Game time for the potentially deciding game 5 is 7:30pm in Niagara Falls.
Elmira has graduated several prominent players to the National Hockey League including Darryl Sittler, Dennis Wideman, and Dan Snyder, who tragically passed away in a car crash caused by current NHL star Dany Heatley. In fact, Campbell has been billeting with Snyder’s parents this season.
In the round robin of the Sutherland Cup, fellow Blenheim hockey player Brett Hope was also competing as a member of the St. Thomas Stars. St. Thomas however, was eliminated from the Sutherland Cup following the round robin.
