Golden Hawks Girls Soar to OFSAA Soccer
The Chatham-Kent Golden Hawks needed a challenge game, but the Hawks managed to soar to an OFSAA soccer appearance after beating the Belle River Nobles 3-2 in a shootout Friday.
As she has for much of the season, Hannah Kennedy jumpstarted the Golden Hawks with a goal in regulation, as well as one in the shootout. It was Sydney Holmes however, who put her team over the top as she scored the other regulation goal, as well as the shootout winner.
Goaltender Kailey Houston managed to keep the ball out of her team’s net in the two 10-minute overtime periods, and scored in the shootout.
For OFSAA, the Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks will now travel to Hamilton June 2 to June 4.
In the other SWOSSAA challenge soccer game, the Ursuline College Lancers girls were defeated 8-1 by Villanova, ending their season.
