Andy Fantuz Falls Off Depth Chart, Cuts Coming Tuesday
After yet another game without a catch, or on field opportunities from the Chicago Bears coaching staff, questions are being raised across the sporting world regarding Andy Fantuz.
In a Toronto Sun article, writer Steve Simmons questioned, “Why don’t the Chicago Bears do the decent thing and just release Andy Fantuz? It’s not as if they’re using him in any meaningful way.”
Further alarm bells were raised when Fantuz’ name no longer appeared on the Chicago Bears’ depth chart which features players from the team’s first string through fourth string.
Currently other receivers including Sam Hurd, Dane Sanzenbacher, Johnny Knox, Roy Williams, Earl Bennett, Devon Hester, Kris Adams, and Onrea Jones remain on the Chicago Bears’ website as wide receivers on their roster. Fantuz who found himself playing a limited special teams role also did not appear on the Bears’ special teams charts.
Fantuz was not a target in Saturday’s 14-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans and was only thrown to once, after coming into the game with less than 3 minutes remaining last Monday. Fantuz made the reception for a 6-yard gain. In total in Saturday’s game against the Titans, 11 other Chicago Bears made a catch.
With the absence of Andy Fantuz’ name from the Bears’ website, questions are beginning to swirl on blogs and social networks about the former Saskatchewan Roughriders stars status with the NFL’s Chicago Bears.
The first set of mandated roster cuts for NFL teams comes Tuesday when teams are forced to shrink their roster to 75. It is being heavily speculated that Fantuz will be among the 10 players the Chicago Bears release Tuesday.
