Andy Fantuz to Make NFL Preseason Debut Today
Chatham’s Andy Fantuz will get his first real opportunity to impress both coaches and Chicago Bears fans as he and the Bears take to the field today against the Buffalo Bills to open the preseason.
“I’ve just got to make sure I don’t make any mistakes mentally and then give it all I’ve got when I get in there,” Fantuz said earlier this week in a video interview that appeared on the Chicago Sun-Times website via YouTube.
Fantuz is in direct competition with what has went from a shallow talent pool, to now a deep and difficult to crack receiving corps. The other receivers who are vying for roster spots including some who undoubtedly will be in a Bears uniform as the season begins barring a major injury, include Roy Williams, Sam Hurd, Devin Hester, Earl Bennett, Johnny Knox, and Ohio State rookie Dane Sanzenbacher.
The Chicago Bears will undoubtedly try to showcase each player on a few plays throughout the game, meaning Fantuz will get his first opportunity to perform in a game situation. The Saskatchewan Roughriders are struggling without Fantuz this season going a dismal 1-5 through their first 6 games.
Game time is 8pm at Soldier Field in Chicago.
