Roeszler Faces Off Against Forsberg, Zetterberg, and the Sedins
Chatham’s Tyler Roeszler, who signed a professional hockey contract with Vita Hasten (HC White Horse) of the Swedish Division1 League this offseason faced off against some of the world’s biggest names in hockey Thursday including Peter Forsberg, Henrik Zetterberg, and Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
The game was Roeszler’s first with the Swedish team following his NCAA career at Cornell. Forsberg’s Icebreakers, a charity team, defeated Vita Hasten 5-4 in the charity exhibition game which drew more than 4,100 fans.
Not only did Roeszler have the opportunity to play against some of the world’s elite players in the game, but former Vita Hasten player and current Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson, as well as fellow Red Wing Niklas Kronwall, and former NHLer Michael Nylander all played with Roeszler for Vita Hasten in the game. Ericsson was named the game star.
Other current and former NHL talent in the game included Markus Naslund, Niklas Backstrom, MagnusPaajarvi, Niklas Sundstrom, Alex Steen, Mattias Timander, Victor Hedman, Tobias Enstrom, Samuel Pahlsson, and Anton Lander.
Reports on several Swedish blogs and news sites state that Roeszler has impressed coaches early on with his speed and puck skills.
Vita Hasten, translated to HC White Horse, does not have another scheduled game until September 11, when Roeszler and his teammates will take on Huddinge IK.
