In a time when more and more local families are struggling to keep their children enrolled in competitive sports, one local business is doing their part to build the local sporting scene, and to support Chatham-Kent youth and families.

“It’s a personal passion to people at TekSavvy to keep kids involved in sports, keeping kids active, and making sure people who can’t necessarily afford to keep kids in competitive sports have an opportunity to do that,” said Kate do Forno, TekSavvy’s Director of Public Relations about why her company is so involved in the local sporting scene.

In particular, TekSavvy recently contributed close to $40,000 to Chatham Minor Hockey in a sponsorship deal that will provide all travel teams, who will play under the moniker of the TekSavvy Cobras, with new jerseys and socks.

The savings Chatham Minor Hockey received from not having to replace their jerseys, is expected to be passed along directly to local families.

According to do Forno, TekSavvy’s involvement in local sports starts at the top, with CEO and Co-Owner Rocky Gaudrault,

“It’s Rocky’s personal passion. It’s important to him, and to us, to help how we can.”

Gaudrault, has been active in the sporting community since founding TekSavvy, including coaching the Major Novice Chatham ‘AA’ Maroons to an OMHA title this past winter. For his role behind the bench with this team, Gaudrault was also named Chatham Minor Hockey’s coach of the year.

Beyond minor sports, TekSavvy has also been committed to supporting other sporting and fitness endeavours in Chatham-Kent, including the extremely successful TekSavvy Kent Cup and the completion of the new YMCA in Chatham.

By supporting events such as the TekSavvy Kent Cup, which has brought international rugby events to Chatham-Kent, including Canada versus the USA this year as a part of the Nations Cup, TekSavvy believes they can help the local economy, while promoting healthy, active lifestyles in Chatham-Kent,

“The economic spinoff of supporting events like the TekSavvy Kent Cup is great for our community,” said do Forno. “We want our community to be a healthy and vibrant place through sport. It’s important to attract and bring in events of that calibre, because we want people to be excited about their community and have opportunities to participate in events like these.”

Although many businesses give back in unique ways, it’s obvious that in Chatham-Kent, TekSavvy, along with being a leading internet service provider, is also leading the way when it comes to supporting the local sports community.
