Hawks Soar Over Panthers in Senior Football Opener
The Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks opened their season in style defeating the John McGregor Panthers by a score of 10-6.
The game was the first of the season for both schools, and the first action on the KCSSAA calendar. Played under the lights and in the drizzling rain, the Hawks were able to hold off the Panthers, picking up their first win of the season, and for many Junior football players who moved to Senior this season, it was the first win for CKSS in over a year as the Junior team went winless last season.
The CKSS Golden Hawks football team were led to their victory by a touchdown from Blayne Bechard on a 38-yard run. Clark Green kicked the convert and also added a field goal for the Hawks in the win on a 28-yard field goal.
Jeremy Vanderwynchel scored the lone touchdown for the John McGregor Panthers in the loss.
The UCC Lancers and Blenheim Bobcats also played Friday afternoon however no score was reported at the time this article was published. Wallaceburg was the lone team not in action this weekend as they travelled to Indiana for an exhibition game.
