James Shelton scored the game winning goal for the Dresden Kings as they spoiled the Wallaceburg Lakers home opener by handing the home team a 5-4 loss.

Dresden’s win, was their second 5-4 victory over the Wallaceburg Lakers in as many games this season.

Shelton also opened the scoring for the Dresden Kings in the game, before Wallaceburg rallied to hold a 3-1 lead midway through the second on goals from Troy Babcock, Jordan Durston, and Towesly Robert.

The Kings however, didn’t quit coming back to tie the game before the second period was over. Josh Beatty started the rally with a beautiful goal he rifled under the crossbar just over the shoulder of Wallaceburg goalie Reid Rankin. Brennan Rainey then scored with less than 10 seconds left in the period to knot the game at 3-3.

In the third, Dylan Mertz opened the scoring for Dresden before Scott Lubbers answered for Wallaceburg to again tie the game 4-4. Shelton then put the game away with just over 6 minutes remaining.

Dresden goalie Brandon Funk then shut the door, capping off his impressive 41 save performance for the Kings.
