Point Races Tighten on Trophy Race Night at South Buxton Raceway
With the South Buxton Raceway season drawing nearer to an end, the divisional point races tightened on Saturday night as Kirk Hooker and Joey Brosseau took home trophy race wins.
Hooker won the Rick Haskell memorial race in the Windride Transportation UMP Late Models feature. The win, also unofficially clinched the Late Models feature overall win for Chatham’s Kirk Hooker, the only racer able to secure their division thus far.
Merlin’s Joey Brosseau won the Country 92.9 guitar trophy in the Schinkels Gourmet Meats UMP Modifieds feature. The competition for the overall Modifieds title got a little tighter as Joel Dick closed the gap on current leader Jim Dale Jr, although Dale Jr. holds a very sturdy lead.
After winning for two straight months, Blenheim’s Shawn Jones allowed Cottam’s Denis DeSerrano, to close the gap on his Tirecraft Comp 4 feature lead, as DeSerrano won his second straight Comp 4 event.
In the tightest divisional race to the finish, Essex’ Gerald Martin closed the gap in thrilling fashion as he held off Merlin’s Eren Vanderiviere, the current overall leader, at the finish line of the Sport Stocks feature.
