Blenheim Blades Drop Fifth Straight Game
The start of the season hasn’t gone as planned for an experienced Blenheim Blades team. Last season, the Blades fought for the last playoff spot, however this year, with more than 15 players on the roster with Junior hockey experience, the Blades weren’t expecting to be in the same position. A recent 5 game losing streak however, has the Blenheim Blades looking up at several teams in the standings.
Tuesday in Belle River, the Blades dropped their 5th straight game, this time at the hands of the Belle River Canadiens 5-1. John McKillop scored the lone goal for the Blenheim Blades late in the third period to break Belle River’s shutout.
Defenseman Mitch Dunning, who was recently released by the Windsor Spitfires after playing last season for the team, and with the Sarnia Sting, scored a goal and added 3 assists in the game for the Canadiens.
Returning much of their roster from last season, the Belle River Canadiens look poised to take a run at repeating as Great Lakes Junior C Champions.
Blenheim now only sits ahead of last place Kingsville who have yet to register a win or a point this season. Blenheim’s only win of the season came on opening night as the Blades thumped the Wallaceburg Lakers 7-0.
Blenheim now prepares to play 3 games in 4 nights as they face Alvinston Friday, Mooretown Sunday at home, and Wheatley Monday.
