After falling behind 3-1 Sunday night against the Leamington Flyers, the Chatham Maroons clawed their way back into the game before losing 4-3 in a shootout.

Tony Spidalieri opened the scoring for the Leamington Flyers before Evan Mascaro tied the game from Sean Myers and Eric Palazzolo. Before the first period was out however, Chris Scott and Cheyne Matheson would put goals by Chatham goalie Conner MacKinnon to give Leamington a 3-1 lead.

To open the second period, Chatham replaced MacKinnon with goalie Hunter Johnson, and from that point out, it was a different Chatham Maroons squad on the ice. Johnson stopped all 22 shots he faced, allowing his team to climb back into the game.

Captain Sean Myers got the scoring going for the Chatham Maroons, sliding in a powerplay marker from Trevor Richardson and Steven Szekesy. Then midway through the third period, Marco Canozoneri tied it up with assists awarded to Mascaro and Troy Cox.

After overtime solved nothing, the two teams went to a shootout. Unfortunately for the home crowd, the only puck to sneak by Chatham’s Hunter Johnson was Alex Seguin’s shootout try as he lifted his Leamington Flyers to the win.

Sean Myers was named the Chatham Maroons player of the game in the loss, and the veteran is the current Maroons scoring leader with 16 points in 12 games.

Chatham will travel to face the same Leamington Flyers Thursday before returning home next Sunday to face the Lasalle Vipers on breast cancer night. The Maroons will wear pink jerseys during this game.
